What is Metal?
Metal is an element that contains carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. What is Metal, though, if not something that is malleable? Metal is defined as “any of numerous ordinary heavy non-magnetic metals with high tensile strength, and ability to form all kinds of shapes”. It also has a greenish-yellow appearance, reflecting a significant amount of heat.
In chemistry, metal is part of a group of chemical elements. The members of this group are collectively known as alloy. The most common metal in the periodic table is iron. Among all metals, iron has the highest melting point, second highest electrical conductivity, and the second lowest density.

A metal is an element of the four elementary elements; hydrogen (atomic number 13), carbon (atomic number 14), and nitrogen (atomic number 15). The other four elements are hydrogen (and one more sub-atomic atom), oxygen (atomic number 16), and phosphorus (atomic number 17). Each of the four elements can combine with at least one other to create new compounds known as metals. Some metals can only exist as compounds consisting of one metal. Some forms of metal are rarer than others and some are even radioactive.
There are several different categories of metals based on their atomic number. These include the traditional metal such as iron or brass, which is part of the gold category; silver (which is the most common silver metal), tin, and lead. Atomic number 26, which contains the symbol Fe, is the fourth heaviest metal, making it too heavy to wear and useful for anything but making jewelry. By contrast, atomic number 25, which contains the symbol Au, is the lightest metal.

The traditional metal alloys are also sometimes referred to as alloy steel, iron metal, or steel. Another class of metal is mixed metals, which are usually white-colored due to impurities from the iron or steel alloying process. Nickel, which is the most abundant metal in mixed metals, is the most common element of nickel alloy. Copper is another common element of nickel alloy, but it’s still relatively soft, so most copper items are less durable than nickel-based metals. Nickel is the most effective metal in creating magnets.
Bismuth is the fifth most common element in iron alloys, making it useful for creating magnets. Silicon is the sixth most commonly found element in alloy steel. Copper and nickel are also commonly found in nickel alloy objects, although their effects are not nearly as strong as those of other metals. Iron alloys are extremely important metal in engineering owing to the use of iron for all kinds of machinery. In fact, iron alloys are the material used by engineers to build the majority of modern aircraft. Because of the strength of iron, and the scarcity of other elements, the manufacturing of iron alloys is one of the most labor-intensive human activities in existence.
